AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Under current law, longevity pay for firefighters and police officers in municipalities with over 10,000 people has remained unchanged for decades at $4 per month for each year of service up to 25 years. Municipalities do not have the authority to raise this rate.

C.S.S.B. 1499 provides that a municipality can pay at least $4 a month per year of service. Further, the 25 year maximum is removed for the purpose of allowing local jurisdictions to retain experienced public servants.

C.S.S.B. 1499 amends current law relating to longevity pay for peace officers and firefighters in certain municipalities.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
