AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
National Day of the Cowboy seeks to commemorate the rich and enduring cowboy heritage present in the United States. A similar resolution passed through the United States Senate and House of Representatives in 2008. Other states, such as Arizona, New York, Oklahoma, and Kansas, have also passed resolutions to honor National Day of the Cowboy.
As proposed, S.B. 1522 amends current law relating to designating the fourth Saturday in July as National Day of the Cowboy.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.061, as follows:
Sec. 662.061. NATIONAL DAY OF THE COWBOY. (a) Provides that the fourth Saturday in July of each year is National Day of the Cowboy in recognition of the historic, cultural, and social contributions of the cowboy.
(b) Requires that the National Day of the Cowboy be regularly observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities.
SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015.
