AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

Current law provides a methodology for the issuing of overweight permits as established by Section 623.210, Transportation Code. An overweight corridor is the movement of oversize or overweight vehicles carrying cargo on state highways by a direct route set by consent of an authority. An overweight corridor places a fee on overweight trucks transporting goods for the purpose of maintaining and operating the overweight corridor's highways.

S.B. 1803 authorizes the establishment of an overweight corridor between the free trade International Bridge in Los Indios to the Port of Harlingen using Farm-to-Market Roads 509 and 106.

As proposed, S.B. 1803 amends current law relating to route designation for the issuance of a permit for the movement of oversize and overweight vehicles in certain counties.
