A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the issuance of a safety belt exemption placard. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter I, Chapter 545, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 545.4131 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 545.4131. SAFETY BELT EXEMPTION PLACARD. (a) The Texas |
|
|
Department of Motor Vehicles shall provide for the issuance of a |
|
|
safety belt exemption placard to a person who should not wear a |
|
|
safety belt for a medical reason. |
|
|
(b) A safety belt exemption placard must be two-sided and |
|
|
hooked. |
|
|
(c) The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles shall adopt |
|
|
rules: |
|
|
(1) regarding the design and content of the safety |
|
|
belt exemption placard; |
|
|
(2) designating acceptable evidence that an applicant |
|
|
for a safety belt exemption placard has a medical reason for not |
|
|
wearing a safety belt; and |
|
|
(3) regarding the issuance and expiration of the |
|
|
safety belt exemption placard. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
