A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring a living wage for those that do business with |
|
|
the state. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 403, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 403.0307 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 403.0306. LIVING WAGE REQUIRED. (a) The comptroller |
|
|
by rule shall require each of the following entities to adopt a |
|
|
living wage policy: |
|
|
(1) state agencies; |
|
|
(2) political subdivisions of this state; and |
|
|
(3) vendors and other contractors of a state agency. |
|
|
(b) The living wage policy shall require an entity to pay to |
|
|
each employee not less than the greater of: |
|
|
(1) $10.10 an hour; or |
|
|
(2) the federal minimum wage under Section 6, Fair |
|
|
Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C. Section 206). |
