        relating to the sealing of applications and orders for the  |

        installation and use of mobile tracking devices in certain law  |

        enforcement investigations. |

			 | 
               BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               SECTION 1.  Section 14, Article 18.21, Code of Criminal  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (e-1) to read as  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        follows: | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               (e-1)  The district judge shall seal any documents submitted  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        to the court under this section, and any order or extension of an  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        order issued under this section, until the period authorized by the  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        order and extension expires. | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        to an application for a mobile tracking device that is submitted on  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        or after the effective date of this Act. An application for a mobile  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        tracking device that is submitted before the effective date of this  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the application was  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        submitted, and the former law is continued in effect for that  | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
        purpose. | 
      
      
        | 
           
			 | 
               SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
