A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to donations to certain local veteran's charities ordered |
|
|
as a condition of community supervision. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 16(f), Article 42.12, Code of Criminal |
|
|
Procedure, is amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(f) In lieu of requiring a defendant to work a specified |
|
|
number of hours at a community service project or projects under |
|
|
Subsection (a), the judge may order a defendant to make a specified |
|
|
donation to a nonprofit food bank or food pantry in the community in |
|
|
which the defendant resides or a charitable organization engaged |
|
|
primarily in performing charitable functions for veterans in the |
|
|
community in which the defendant resides. In this subsection, |
|
|
"charitable organization" has the meaning assigned by Section |
|
|
2252.906, Government Code, and "veteran" has the meaning assigned |
|
|
by Section 434.022, Government Code. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
