A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to School Bus Safety Week in public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 34, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Section 34.0022 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 34.0022. SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK. (a) To educate |
|
|
students and raise community awareness about the importance of |
|
|
school bus safety, the third full week in October is designated as |
|
|
School Bus Safety Week. |
|
|
(b) The agency, in consultation with the Department of |
|
|
Public Safety, shall develop a school bus safety program for |
|
|
implementation in public schools. |
|
|
(c) During the designated week, each school district shall |
|
|
provide the school bus safety program developed under Subsection |
|
|
(b) to students at every grade level. The program shall be open to |
|
|
the public and the district shall encourage parents and other |
|
|
community members to participate. |
|
|
(d) The commissioner shall adopt rules to administer this |
|
|
section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Not later than September 1, 2015, the Texas |
|
|
Education Agency shall develop the school bus safety program |
|
|
required under Section 34.0022, Education Code, as added by this |
|
|
Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
