A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the composition of the Public Utility Commission of |
|
Texas. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 12.051(a), Utilities Code, is amended to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(a) The commission is composed of five [three] |
|
commissioners appointed as follows: |
|
(1) four members appointed by the governor with the |
|
advice and consent of the senate, one of whom must be appointed from |
|
a list of candidates submitted to the governor by the speaker of the |
|
house of representatives; and |
|
(2) one member appointed by the lieutenant governor. |
|
SECTION 2. Promptly after this Act takes effect, the |
|
governor and the lieutenant governor shall each appoint an |
|
additional member to the Public Utility Commission of Texas. The |
|
governor shall appoint the additional member from a list of |
|
candidates submitted to the governor by the speaker of the house of |
|
representatives. The member appointed by the governor shall serve |
|
a term expiring August 31, 2019, and the member appointed by the |
|
lieutenant governor shall serve a term expiring August 31, 2021. |
|
Until all appointees have taken office, a quorum of the commission |
|
is a majority of the number of members who are qualified. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
