A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study on the performance and operations of public |
|
schools that operate on a year-round system. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. In this Act, "agency" means the Texas Education |
|
Agency. |
|
SECTION 2. The agency shall conduct a study of schools |
|
operating on a year-round system under Section 25.084, Education |
|
Code. The study must: |
|
(1) identify the number of schools in the state that |
|
operate on a year-round system; |
|
(2) compare the performance on state assessment |
|
instruments under Section 39.023, Education Code, and the SAT or |
|
ACT of students attending schools that operate on a year-round |
|
system with the performance of students attending schools that |
|
operate on a traditional school year calendar; and |
|
(3) examine the manner in which the academic calendars |
|
of schools that operate on a year-round system are structured in |
|
relation to the administration dates of state assessment |
|
instruments under Section 39.023, Education Code. |
|
SECTION 3. Not later than December 1, 2016, the agency shall |
|
deliver a report containing the findings of the study conducted |
|
under Section 2 of this Act to the governor, lieutenant governor, |
|
speaker of the house of representatives, and appropriate committees |
|
of the legislature. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act expires December 31, 2016. |
|
SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
