A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to notice requirements for certain witnesses who are
  scheduled to appear before a grand jury.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 20, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
  amended by adding Article 20.125 to read as follows:
         Art. 20.125.  NOTICE REQUIREMENT. A witness, including a
  witness who is an accused or suspected person, who does not receive
  a grant of immunity from prosecution in exchange for the witness's
  testimony before a grand jury is entitled to receive notice that the
  witness is scheduled to appear before the grand jury not later than
  the 10th day before the date that any appearance before the grand
  jury is required, unless the notice is waived by the witness.
         SECTION 2.   The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to a grand jury proceeding that begins on or after the effective
  date of this Act. A grand jury proceeding that begins before the
  effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the
  date the proceeding began, and the former law is continued in effect
  for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.   This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
