A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the time for qualification for elected office. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 601.003(b), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) A person elected to a regular term of office may qualify |
|
|
for office following the canvass of the vote for that office and the |
|
|
declaration of the result of the election and shall [qualify and] |
|
|
assume the duties of the office on, or as soon as possible after, |
|
|
January 1 of the year following the person's election. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
