A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the development of healthy nutrition and physical |
|
activity guidelines for licensed child-care providers, public |
|
school teachers, and public school administrators. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 114, Health and Safety Code, is amended |
|
by adding Section 114.009 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 114.009. NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY GUIDELINES |
|
FOR CHILD-CARE PROVIDERS. (a) The council shall develop wellness |
|
guidelines to educate licensed child-care providers, public school |
|
teachers, and public school administrators about serving as role |
|
models for children by: |
|
(1) practicing healthy nutrition; and |
|
(2) engaging in physical activity. |
|
(b) The council shall develop incentives to encourage |
|
licensed child-care providers, public school teachers, and public |
|
school administrators to follow the guidelines. |
|
(c) The council shall communicate the guidelines and |
|
incentives to licensed child-care providers, public school |
|
teachers, and public school administrators in this state in a |
|
manner that the council determines is appropriate. |
|
SECTION 2. The interagency obesity council shall develop |
|
the guidelines and incentives required by Sections 114.009(a) and |
|
(b), Health and Safety Code, as added by this Act, not later than |
|
January 1, 2016. The council shall communicate the guidelines and |
|
incentives as required by Section 114.009(c), as added by this Act, |
|
not later than July 1, 2016. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
