A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to eligibility for early voting by mail. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 82.002, Election Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) A qualified voter who is the permanent caretaker of a |
|
|
person who has a disability described by Subsection (a) is eligible |
|
|
for early voting by mail under this section if the voter's presence |
|
|
is necessary to protect the life or safety of the person. The |
|
|
secretary of state shall adopt rules to implement this subsection. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
