A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the authorization of certain industry professionals to |
|
provide instruction in public schools. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 21, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 21.0488 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 21.0488. CERTIFICATION FOR CERTAIN INDUSTRY |
|
PROFESSIONALS. (a) To ensure a sufficient number of qualified |
|
industry professionals authorized to provide instruction relating |
|
to curriculum required for an endorsement under Section |
|
28.025(c-1), the board shall propose rules providing for the |
|
expedited certification of persons with appropriate industry |
|
credentials. |
|
(b) The board's rules must permit a person to obtain |
|
certification under this section without completing an educator |
|
preparation program or performing successfully on a generally |
|
applicable certification examination. |
|
(c) A certificate issued under this section may not |
|
authorize the person to provide instruction to students in a |
|
subject area other than the area in which the person holds |
|
appropriate industry credentials. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
