A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the content of a temporary license issued by the |
|
|
Department of Public Safety of the State of Texas. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 521.124, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c) A temporary license issued to an applicant must include: |
|
|
(1) the applicant's name; |
|
|
(2) the date of issuance of the temporary license; |
|
|
(3) a statement indicating either that the applicant |
|
|
submitted a voter registration application or declined to register |
|
|
to vote; and |
|
|
(4) the following statement: "If you submitted a voter |
|
|
registration application at the time you applied for a driver's |
|
|
license, this temporary license is proof of your application for |
|
|
voter registration. Retain it until you receive a voter |
|
|
registration certificate from your local voter registrar. If you |
|
|
do not receive a voter registration certificate, you may use this as |
|
|
proof that you submitted a timely voter registration application." |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to a temporary license issued by the Department of Public Safety of |
|
|
the State of Texas on or after the effective date of this Act. A |
|
|
temporary license issued by the Department of Public Safety of the |
|
|
State of Texas before the effective date of this Act is governed by |
|
|
the law in effect at the time of issuance and the former law is |
|
|
continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
