A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to an exemption for attorneys from athlete agent |
|
|
registration. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 2051.101, Occupations Code, is amended |
|
|
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(a) Except as provided by Subsection (b) or (b-1), an |
|
|
individual may not act as an athlete agent in this state or |
|
|
represent that the individual is an athlete agent in this state |
|
|
unless the individual holds a certificate of registration under |
|
|
this chapter as: |
|
|
(1) a professional athlete agent; or |
|
|
(2) a limited athlete agent. |
|
|
(b-1) An attorney licensed in this state is not required to |
|
|
hold a certificate of registration under this chapter to act as an |
|
|
athlete agent. A licensed attorney who acts as an athlete agent in |
|
|
this state is considered to be registered under this chapter and |
|
|
must comply with and is subject to all other provisions of this |
|
|
chapter. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
