A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to transition services for public school students enrolled |
|
|
in special education programs. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 29.011, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) In adopting procedures for compliance with federal |
|
|
requirements under Subsection (a), the commissioner shall require |
|
|
that a student's individualized education program include: |
|
|
(1) appropriate measurable postsecondary goals based |
|
|
on age-appropriate transition assessments related to training, |
|
|
education, employment, and, as appropriate, independent living |
|
|
skills; and |
|
|
(2) the transition services, including courses of |
|
|
study, needed to assist the student in reaching the student's |
|
|
postsecondary goals. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
