A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to identification documents for title and vehicle |
|
|
registration applications. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 501.023, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) Identification presented under Subsection (a) must be |
|
|
a government-issued photo identification of the owner that contains |
|
|
a unique identification number, an expiration date, and the owner's |
|
|
birth date. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 501.0235(a), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The department may require an applicant for a title to |
|
|
provide [current] personal identification [as determined by
|
|
|
department rule]. Personal identification presented under this |
|
|
section must be a government-issued photo identification of the |
|
|
applicant that contains a unique identification number, an |
|
|
expiration date, and the applicant's birth date. |
|
|
SECTION 3. Section 502.043(d), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) The department may require an applicant for |
|
|
registration to provide [current] personal identification [as
|
|
|
determined by department rule]. Personal identification presented |
|
|
under this section must be a government-issued photo identification |
|
|
of the applicant that contains a unique identification number, an |
|
|
expiration date, and the applicant's birth date. Any |
|
|
identification number required by the department under this |
|
|
subsection may be entered into the department's electronic titling |
|
|
system but may not be printed on the title. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
