A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to an annual demographic study of each Texas House of |
|
Representatives and Texas Senate district. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 468, Government Code, is amended by |
|
adding Section 468.006 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 468.006. ANNUAL DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY OF STATE HOUSE OF |
|
REPRESENTATIVES AND SENATE DISTRICTS. (a) The state demographer |
|
shall conduct an annual demographic study to determine the |
|
following information for each state house of representatives and |
|
state senate district for the current state fiscal year: |
|
(1) the average household income in the district; |
|
(2) the average education attainment level of |
|
individuals in the district; |
|
(3) the percentage of the population in the district |
|
by ethnicity; |
|
(4) the annual amount of lottery sales in the |
|
district; |
|
(5) the rate of homeownership in the district; and |
|
(6) the average age of individuals in the district. |
|
(b) Not later than September 1, the state demographer shall |
|
submit to each member of the house of representatives, each member |
|
of the senate, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the |
|
lieutenant governor a report that includes the results of the |
|
demographic study. The report must be made in writing and in a |
|
searchable electronic format that enables a user to sort the |
|
information described in Subsection (a) by category. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2016. |
