A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the use of the justice court technology fund to convert |
|
existing paper documents to electronic data. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Article 102.0173, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|
amended by amending Subsection (d) and adding Subsection (d-1) to |
|
read as follows: |
|
(d) A fund designated by this article may be used as |
|
provided by Subsection (d-1) or [only] to finance: |
|
(1) the cost of continuing education and training for |
|
justice court judges and clerks regarding technological |
|
enhancements for justice courts; and |
|
(2) the purchase and maintenance of technological |
|
enhancements for a justice court, including: |
|
(A) computer systems; |
|
(B) computer networks; |
|
(C) computer hardware; |
|
(D) computer software; |
|
(E) imaging systems; |
|
(F) electronic kiosks; |
|
(G) electronic ticket writers; and |
|
(H) docket management systems. |
|
(d-1) Each fiscal year the commissioners court may use 15 |
|
percent of the justice court technology fund to pay the salary and |
|
overtime wages of an employee who is employed by the county to |
|
convert existing paper documents to electronic format. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
