A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring certain public school students to attend a |
|
designated film screening. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 28.0024 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 28.0024. FILM SCREENING REQUIRED FOR CERTAIN STUDENTS. |
|
(a) Each school district shall require 8th grade and 11th grade |
|
students to attend a screening of the film America: Imagine the |
|
World Without Her. |
|
(b) On written request from a student's parent or person |
|
standing in parental relation to the student, the school district |
|
shall excuse the student from attending the screening. |
|
(c) The commissioner shall adopt rules and procedures as |
|
necessary to administer this section, including procedures to |
|
ensure that the film designated under this section is distributed |
|
to school districts and exhibited to students in a manner that does |
|
not violate copyright laws. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2015-2016 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
