A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the statutory county courts in Denton County.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 25.0632, Government Code, is amended by
  amending Subsection (g) and adding Subsection (g-1) to read as
  follows:
         (g)  Except as provided by Subsection (g-1), the [The] jury
  in a statutory county court or statutory probate court in all civil
  or criminal matters is composed of 12 members, except that in
  misdemeanor criminal cases and any other case in which the court has
  jurisdiction that under general law would be concurrent with the
  county court, the jury is composed of six members.
         (g-1)  The jury in the County Court at Law No. 1 and the
  County Court at Law No. 2 may be composed of either six or 12
  members, unless otherwise provided by law.
         SECTION 2.  Section 25.0633(e), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (e)  The County Court at Law No. 2 of Denton County has:
               (1)  jurisdiction over all civil causes and
  proceedings, original and appellate, prescribed by law for county
  courts; and
               (2)  concurrent jurisdiction with the district court in
  civil cases in which the matter in controversy exceeds $500 but does
  not exceed $500,000, excluding interest, statutory or punitive
  damages and penalties, and attorney's fees and costs, as alleged on
  the face of the petition.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
