A JOINT RESOLUTION
  proposing a constitutional amendment authorizing certain elected
  county or district officeholders to become candidates for a
  countywide office of the same county without automatically
  resigning from the office already being held.
         BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 65(b), Article XVI, Texas Constitution,
  is amended to read as follows:
         (b)  If any of the officers named herein shall announce their
  candidacy, or shall in fact become a candidate, in any General,
  Special or Primary Election, for any office of profit or trust under
  the laws of this State or the United States other than the office
  then held or an office of the same county elected by the voters of
  the entire county, at any time when the unexpired term of the office
  then held shall exceed one year and 30 days, such announcement or
  such candidacy shall constitute an automatic resignation of the
  office then held, and the vacancy thereby created shall be filled
  pursuant to law in the same manner as other vacancies for such
  office are filled.
         SECTION 2.  This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
  submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 3, 2015.
  The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
  proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing certain
  elected county or district officeholders to become candidates for a
  countywide office of the same county without automatically
  resigning from the office already being held."
