H.R. No. 49

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists
hijacked four civilian airplanes in the skies over the United
States; an estimated 3,000 people perished when New York City's
twin skyscrapers collapsed and the wreckage burned at the Pentagon
and in the Pennsylvania countryside; and
WHEREAS, The worst attack on the American people in the
country's history happened on that horrific day; while that date
will forever be remembered as one of tragedy and loss, we also
remember the selfless determination of law enforcement officers,
firefighters, and other rescue workers who charged into danger that
morning and in the days after; and
WHEREAS, United in grief, Americans helped in every way
possible; we gave blood and said prayers; we performed acts of
charity and comforted each other; and
WHEREAS, In December 2001, the U.S. Congress passed a joint
resolution designating September 11 of each year as Patriot Day; on
that solemn anniversary, we lower our flags and bow our heads for a
  moment of silence; and
WHEREAS, Patriot Day is a tribute to the innocent and those
who died trying to rescue them; it is also a pledge to carry on their
legacies and remain steadfast in our commitment to our country, our
neighbors, and our character; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate Patriot Day 2016 and honor with our
memories and our actions those who were injured and those who died
  in the September 11 attacks.
