R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family, friends, and members of the Laredo community
  were greatly saddened by the passing of native son Samuel Johnson
  III on February 28, 2014, at the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, Born on June 17, 1927, in The Gateway City, Samuel
  Johnson was a successful businessman who led Johnson Bottling
  Works, the company that was founded by his grandfather; in addition
  to contributing to his hometown through his professional
  accomplishments, this proud Texan consistently sang the praises of
  Laredo as a city of great talent, culture, and endless
  possibilities; and
         WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Mr. Theatre," he helped
  establish, re-energize, and support a host of organizations
  dedicated to the arts; among the groups that benefited from his
  enthusiasm and efforts, whether from center stage or behind the
  scenes, were the Laredo Little Theatre, the Webb County Heritage
  Foundation, the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Laredo
  Theater Guild International; and
         WHEREAS, Samuel Johnson was an admired ambassador for the
  city of Laredo and an inspiration to countless residents, and he
  leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate for many years
  to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Samuel Johnson III
  and extend sincere condolences to all those who mourn his passing;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Samuel
  Johnson III.
