R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family, friends, and members of the Laredo community |
|
were greatly saddened by the passing of native son Samuel Johnson |
|
III on February 28, 2014, at the age of 86; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on June 17, 1927, in The Gateway City, Samuel |
|
Johnson was a successful businessman who led Johnson Bottling |
|
Works, the company that was founded by his grandfather; in addition |
|
to contributing to his hometown through his professional |
|
accomplishments, this proud Texan consistently sang the praises of |
|
Laredo as a city of great talent, culture, and endless |
|
possibilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Mr. Theatre," he helped |
|
establish, re-energize, and support a host of organizations |
|
dedicated to the arts; among the groups that benefited from his |
|
enthusiasm and efforts, whether from center stage or behind the |
|
scenes, were the Laredo Little Theatre, the Webb County Heritage |
|
Foundation, the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Laredo |
|
Theater Guild International; and |
|
WHEREAS, Samuel Johnson was an admired ambassador for the |
|
city of Laredo and an inspiration to countless residents, and he |
|
leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate for many years |
|
to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Samuel Johnson III |
|
and extend sincere condolences to all those who mourn his passing; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Samuel |
|
Johnson III. |
