R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
  memories of Edward William Kafer of San Angelo, who died on November
  14, 2014, at the age of 97; and
         WHEREAS, Edward Kafer was born in Hurnville on August 25,
  1917, to Karl and Anna Kafer; answering his nation's call to duty as
  a young man, he served in the U.S. Army, transporting prisoners of
  war from France by way of New York to Camp Chaffee in Arkansas
  during the latter days of World War II; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of a long and varied career,
  Mr. Kafer was a dryland farmer in several locations in Texas, a
  stock farmer in Hamilton County, and a night shift corrections
  officer for the Texas Youth Council in Gatesville for 15 years; and
         WHEREAS, After retiring from state employment, Mr. Kafer and
  his wife, Willa Dene, owned and operated the Silver Spur restaurant
  in Roby and then went on to work for the Fisher County Senior
  Citizen Center, cooking and delivering meals to elderly patrons;
  they later lived in Bronte before settling in San Angelo in 2002;
  and
         WHEREAS, A keen outdoorsman and a Master Gardener, Mr. Kafer
  took special pleasure in annual hunting trips with his
  brothers-in-law, and he loved to share the bounty of his garden with
  family and friends; he also delighted in the time he spent with his
  grandchildren, drinking Dr Pepper, enjoying ice cream on the front
  porch, and playing football in the front yard even into his 80s; and
         WHEREAS, Ed Kafer lived a full and generous life rich in the
  intangibles that matter most, and he will be long remembered with
  deep affection by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Edward William
  Kafer and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones: to his wife
  of 62 years, Willa Dene Kafer; to his children, Gary Kafer and his
  wife, Mary, Judy Hurst and her husband, Paul, and Jim Bob Kafer and
  his wife, Becky; to his grandchildren, April Eagan and her husband,
  Scott, Michelle Ridenour and her husband, Curtis, Matt Hurst and
  his wife, Jessica, Kylen Kafer and his wife, Amanda, Clayton Kafer
  and his wife, Bailey, and Canyon Kafer; to his great-granddaughter,
  Aubrey Anna Ridenour; to his sisters, Rosemary Schaffner, Ruth
  Gardner, and Anna Lee Lewis; and to his other relatives and friends;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edward
  William Kafer.
