R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Hector Montoya of Dallas has demonstrated |
|
compassion, initiative, and maturity beyond his years by leading an |
|
effort to put smoke detectors in the homes of needy families and |
|
senior citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hector, who is nine years old, was upset by news |
|
about a deadly house fire in Fort Worth that killed a mother and her |
|
six-year-old daughter in January 2014; when he learned that the |
|
lives might have been saved if the home had been equipped with a |
|
smoke detector, he was moved to action; and |
|
WHEREAS, Taking $300 he had painstakingly saved in order to |
|
buy himself a PlayStation 4 gaming console, Hector instead used the |
|
money to purchase smoke detectors, and he accompanied members of |
|
the Grand Prairie Fire Department as they installed the detectors |
|
in homes around the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hector's example led to an online effort that raised |
|
more than $7,000, enabling him to buy more smoke detectors to |
|
distribute; in addition, other individuals and businesses were |
|
motivated to follow his example; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hector Montoya's concern for other people and his |
|
willingness to sacrifice in their behalf marks him as an |
|
extraordinary young Texan, and he is truly deserving of special |
|
recognition for the significant contribution he has made to his |
|
community and for the way he has inspired others to do the same; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Hector Montoya for working to provide |
|
smoke detectors for his fellow Texans and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for happiness and a bright future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
provided to Hector Montoya as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
