R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, nurse practitioners have
  provided high-quality, cost-effective health care, devoting
  themselves to the well-being and safety of their patients; and
         WHEREAS, Nurse practitioners are registered nurses who have
  completed master's or doctoral degrees and who are licensed to
  deliver health care services independently and in collaboration
  with a variety of other health care providers; they are experts in
  disease prevention, and their responsibilities typically include
  conducting physical exams, obtaining patient histories, ordering
  and interpreting pertinent diagnostic tests, making diagnoses, and
  ordering and prescribing medications and other therapies; and
         WHEREAS, Across Texas, over 13,000 nurse practitioners
  provide services in a wide variety of settings, among them
  outpatient clinics, nurse practitioner-owned clinics, medical
  offices, hospitals, intensive and emergency care units, extended
  care centers, and school facilities; and
         WHEREAS, The contributions of nurse practitioners are a vital
  component of the Texas health care system, and it is indeed
  appropriate to recognize the many ways in which these highly
  skilled professionals promote the well-being of their fellow
  citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor nurse practitioners across the Lone Star
  State and commend them for their dedicated service.
