R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The McAllen Fire Department was named the winner of
  the 2014 Good Morning America 5-Alarm Firefighters Challenge; and
         WHEREAS, Firefighters Thomas Brooks, Justin Hill, and Mark
  Zamora represented the McAllen Fire Department in New York City,
  where they competed against fellow firefighters from Tacoma,
  Washington, and Gulf Shores, Alabama, on the popular ABC-TV show;
  they performed well in several skills-based and physical events,
  and the team secured their victory with an impressive showing in the
  trivia portion of the competition; and
         WHEREAS, The department was presented with a check for
  $10,000 for winning the 5-Alarm Firefighters Challenge, and the
  funds were subsequently donated by MFD to the Texas Line of Duty
  Death Task Force, which supports firefighters injured in the line
  of duty as well as the families of those firefighters who have lost
  their lives while safeguarding their fellow Texans; and
         WHEREAS, The McAllen Fire Department plays a vital role in
  the community its members have sworn to protect, and it is a
  pleasure to recognize these outstanding public servants for their
  significant accomplishment and service; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the McAllen Fire Department on
  winning the Good Morning America 5-Alarm Firefighters Challenge for
  2014 and extend best wishes to its members for continued success
  with their crucial work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the department as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
