R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Paso del Norte Health Foundation is marking its |
|
20th anniversary on September 30, 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1995, the foundation was established to promote |
|
wellness among people in the Paso del Norte region, which includes |
|
El Paso and Hudspeth Counties in Texas, Doña Ana, Luna, and Otero |
|
Counties in New Mexico, and the City of Juarez in Mexico; its |
|
primary focus is to improve quality of life through health |
|
education and disease prevention; and |
|
WHEREAS, The foundation benefited from an initial investment |
|
of $130 million from the sale of the not-for-profit Providence |
|
Memorial Hospital; since the organization's inception, its |
|
administrators have provided skillful stewardship of the |
|
investment trust to ensure that the foundation can continue its |
|
work in behalf of generations to come; and |
|
WHEREAS, Maintaining more than $200 million in holdings, the |
|
Paso del Norte Health Foundation leverages its resources to improve |
|
regional access to clean water, to diminish environmental hazards |
|
from lead and pesticides, and to help achieve reductions in |
|
regional smoking rates, sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and teenage |
|
pregnancy; it also supports child abuse prevention, and it sponsors |
|
a wide range of programs to advance early childhood development, |
|
youth engagement, emotional health, and healthy family and social |
|
environments; and |
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy organization shares with other |
|
groups the knowledge gained through its research and analysis; both |
|
in the United States and abroad, its initiatives have been |
|
recognized as worthwhile models for community engagement and the |
|
collaborative development of solutions to complex health issues; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its leadership in promoting good health over |
|
the past two decades, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation has made |
|
a lasting, positive difference in quality of life for the people of |
|
the region, and its management and staff may reflect with pride on |
|
the group's many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Paso del |
|
Norte Health Foundation and extend to all those associated with the |
|
organization sincere best wishes for continued success in their |
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
