R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Stephen Beasley is retiring as publisher of the
  Lubbock Avalanche-Journal in 2015, drawing to a close a notable
  career in the newspaper business that has spanned more than four
  decades; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Clovis, New Mexico, Mr. Beasley was raised
  in Lubbock, where he worked as a paper carrier for the
  Avalanche-Journal during his youth; he went on to attend Texas Tech
  University, and a month after his graduation in May 1972, he went to
  work at the newspaper in the retail advertising department, working
  his way up to advertising director in 1983; and
         WHEREAS, In 1990, Mr. Beasley left Lubbock to broaden his
  experience by serving in advertising leadership positions at papers
  in Leesburg, Florida, and Amarillo; he moved to Georgia in 2002 to
  become the general manager of the Savannah Morning News, and in 2004
  he returned to his hometown, and to his hometown newspaper, when he
  was named the publisher of the Avalanche-Journal; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Beasley has been recognized
  as an influential leader in the newspaper industry; he served as
  president of the Texas Newspaper Advertising Managers Association
  and the Midwest Newspaper Advertising Executives Association and as
  Texas vice president of the International Advertising Executives
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, This caring gentleman has also found time to give
  back to his community; a member of the board of the Lubbock Chamber
  of Commerce and the Lubbock Area United Way, he has also served as
  president of the Panhandle-South Plains Fair board, as chair of the
  Texas Tech College of Media and Communications advisory board, and
  as a member of the Hope Lodge Capital Campaign Steering Committee;
  in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife,
  Phyllis; and
         WHEREAS, Stephen Beasley's dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the people of
  Lubbock and earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and
  he may indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements as he
  embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Stephen Beasley on his retirement
  from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and extend to him sincere best
  wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Beasley as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
