R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Texas State Alliance of YMCAs are |
|
visiting Austin on February 11, 2015, to celebrate YMCA State |
|
Advocacy Day at the Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, Representing the interests and concerns of the 27 |
|
independent Ys across Texas, the Texas State Alliance of YMCAs |
|
works diligently to further the mission of the YMCA, which is to |
|
build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities through |
|
programs that develop healthy spirits, minds, and bodies; and |
|
WHEREAS, The alliance mobilizes staff, volunteers, and |
|
community leaders to advocate on behalf of local Ys; these |
|
institutions nurture children and promote youth development, |
|
healthy living, and social responsibility; at Ys across the state, |
|
more than 5,000 employees and nearly 50,000 volunteers serve over |
|
1.4 million Texans, including more than 638,000 children and teens; |
|
moreover, Texas Ys are a major provider of child care, and they give |
|
over $25 million in financial assistance and scholarships; and |
|
WHEREAS, Each year, members of the alliance travel to Austin |
|
to support the development of strong, caring communities and to |
|
encourage the state's leadership to adopt policies that will |
|
contribute to the health and well-being of all Texans; it is indeed |
|
fitting to recognize this noteworthy organization for its civic |
|
engagement and commitment to improving the quality of life |
|
throughout the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 11, 2015, as YMCA State |
|
Advocacy Day at the Capitol and extend to all those participating |
|
sincere best wishes for the future. |
