R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The mock trial team from Edinburg High School took |
|
|
first place at the Region One Mock Trial Competition held at the |
|
|
Hidalgo County Courthouse on January 17-19, 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Vying against 12 other teams from high schools |
|
|
across the region, the Edinburg team participated in five rounds |
|
|
over three days to emerge as the winners; with this outstanding |
|
|
victory, the team has earned a place competing against other top |
|
|
regional teams at the 35th Annual Texas High School Mock Trial |
|
|
Competition to be held on March 7 and 8 in Dallas; the achievement |
|
|
marks the second consecutive win for the school in the regional |
|
|
event; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The three students who served as Edinburg mock trial |
|
|
attorneys, Julissa Mendoza, Yesenia Molina, and Christian |
|
|
Navarrete, received Best Advocate honors in each round; additional |
|
|
members of the mock trial team include Nyane Zaragoza, Chya |
|
|
Woodard, Kelsey Fortuna, Andrew Cantu, Jake Solis, Jannely |
|
|
Villarreal, and Alyssa Diaz; the team benefited from the able |
|
|
guidance of their sponsors, Melissa Zamora and Nydia Zamarripa, and |
|
|
their attorney advisor, Arturo Cantu; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These fine young Texans have shown great |
|
|
determination and talent through countless hours of hard work and |
|
|
preparation, and they may take justifiable pride in their notable |
|
|
accomplishment; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Edinburg High School mock trial |
|
|
team on winning the Region One Mock Trial Competition and extend to |
|
|
its members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
