R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the University of North Texas Graduate |
|
|
Student Council are visiting the State Capitol on April 10, 2015, to |
|
|
participate in their Legislative Action Day; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In 1968, the GSC was founded to secure formal |
|
|
avenues of communication among representatives of the graduate |
|
|
student body, the dean of the graduate school, and the graduate |
|
|
council; members strive to improve the graduate student experience |
|
|
by working with UNT offices and with administrators, faculty, and |
|
|
staff; moreover, the organization has engaged in advocacy efforts |
|
|
at the national level through membership in the National |
|
|
Association of Graduate-Professional Students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The GSC has been involved in a number of important |
|
|
matters over the past few years, including UNT budget hearings, |
|
|
efforts to avoid cuts in library funding, and the selection process |
|
|
for the new UNT president; the organization sponsors New Graduate |
|
|
Student Orientation and Graduate Exhibition, it is encouraging a |
|
|
university-wide policy to benefit graduate students who are new |
|
|
parents, and it is seeking official representation on the Student |
|
|
Service Fee Committee that governs approximately $12 million of |
|
|
student fee money; additionally, during its inaugural Legislative |
|
|
Action Day, it is hosting advocacy training for graduate students; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The group's members have demonstrated a strong |
|
|
commitment to maintaining the Lone Star State's status as a |
|
|
national leader in higher education, and their endeavors indeed |
|
|
merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby honor the University of North Texas Graduate |
|
|
Student Council on the occasion of its 2015 Legislative Action Day |
|
|
at the State Capitol and extend to the members of the council |
|
|
sincere best wishes for a productive and enjoyable visit to Austin; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the GSC as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
