R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Laura Waller has selflessly benefited the Family
  Abuse Center in Waco over the course of two decades, and it is
  indeed appropriate to recognize her for her contributions; and
         WHEREAS, After visiting the shelter with a friend, Ms. Waller
  felt great empathy for the little ones there, and she wanted to find
  a way to help; she volunteered her skills as a seamstress and began
  making beautiful clothing for the smaller youngsters, both
  fulfilling a basic need for growing children and letting them know
  she cared about them; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Waller endeavored to sew one dress a week, and
  it is estimated that she made more than 1,000 dresses over the
  years; along the way, she slipped a handwritten note into a pocket
  of each dress to let the recipient know it was made just for her; in
  addition, she made overalls and other clothes for boys; and
         WHEREAS, Now an esteemed nonagenarian, Ms. Waller no longer
  sews, but she began purchasing items for the center with her bingo
  winnings; her fellow players learned of her kindness and began
  donating their winnings as well; and
         WHEREAS, Laura Waller has made a positive difference in the
  lives of countless young children through her compassion and her
  dedicated efforts in behalf of the Family Abuse Center, and she has
  inspired others through her generosity; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Laura Waller for her contributions to the
  Family Abuse Center in Waco and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Waller as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
