R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, After 34 years, Pauline Lam is retiring as director
  of the Cedar Park Public Library on January 31, 2015, and the
  conclusion of her outstanding career provides a fitting opportunity
  to reflect on the contributions of this esteemed professional; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver, Canada,
  Ms. Lam earned her bachelor's degree from the University of British
  Columbia before moving to Texas to attend graduate school; after
  obtaining her master's degree in library science from The
  University of Texas at Austin, she became the first director of the
  Cedar Park Public Library in December 1980; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Lam is the city's longest-serving employee, and
  over the past three decades, she has seen Cedar Park grow from a
  population of less than 3,500 to more than 60,000 people; in her
  time as director, she has helped the library transform into a center
  for lifelong learning; working along with the Library Foundation
  and Friends of the Library, she has written and acquired a number of
  grants during her tenure, which, along with fund-raisers, have
  generated nearly $1 million to support the institution; and
         WHEREAS, The library facility has expanded from its original
  500-square-foot storefront to its current 25,000-square-foot
  building, and many additional positive changes have taken place
  under Ms. Lam's supervision; beyond books, the library also has a
  variety of media and technology materials to offer its patrons, as
  well as opportunities for continued education and group
  collaboration; and
         WHEREAS, The proud mother of two daughters, Candace and
  Megan, Ms. Lam plans to enjoy her retirement by spending more time
  with her loved ones, traveling, volunteering, taking classes, and
  simply relaxing at home; and
         WHEREAS, Pauline Lam's dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the citizens of
  Cedar Park, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well
  spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Pauline Lam on her retirement as
  director of the Cedar Park Public Library and extend to her sincere
  best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Lam as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
