R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the |
|
|
founding of the Abandoned Cemetery Association of Parker County; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Formed in 1985, the ACA is dedicated to renovating |
|
|
cemeteries that have fallen into disrepair over time; the |
|
|
organization maintains or supervises some 76 burial grounds in |
|
|
Parker County, and its volunteers contribute to the beautification |
|
|
of those sites by mowing, removing dead trees, erecting fences, and |
|
|
restoring monuments; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The ACA's outstanding work has helped piece together |
|
|
the history of the region obscured by incomplete census records; |
|
|
many of the memorials preserved by the association document |
|
|
pioneers who lived in the area even before the founding of Parker |
|
|
County in 1855, and these gravestones also provide examples of the |
|
|
folk art, craftsmanship, and religious customs of early settlers; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through its notable efforts, the ACA pays great |
|
|
respect to previous generations of Parker County residents and |
|
|
provides a vital link to the area's past, and it is most fitting to |
|
|
honor the association on the occasion of this significant |
|
|
milestone; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of the |
|
|
Abandoned Cemetery Association of Parker County, and extend to all |
|
|
those involved with the organization sincere appreciation for their |
|
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
