R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and
  Biomedical Sciences is celebrating its centennial in 2016, and this
  occasion provides a welcome opportunity to celebrate its rich
  legacy of achievement; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1916, the Texas A&M College of
  Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is the only college of
  veterinary medicine in Texas; throughout its history, it has
  offered students viable, diverse career paths and has been
  responsible for notable advances in the veterinary profession;
  today, it provides a further service by promoting education in the
  crucial fields of science, technology, engineering, and
  mathematics; and
         WHEREAS, The economic benefits of the college's work are felt
  in myriad ways; it helps protect the state's $15.8 billion
  livestock industry and $1.3 billion wildlife industry; moreover,
  the veterinary profession itself has a $3.9 billion impact in Texas
  and plays an important part in creating job opportunities in rural
  areas; and
         WHEREAS, The program's more than 6,000 graduates have made
  substantial contributions to conservation, food safety,
  biosecurity, and public and environmental health; in addition, the
  college reaches out to assist the general public through a range of
  endeavors, including the assistance it provides for animals during
  disasters and other emergencies, and it supports the One Health
  Initiative that fosters collaboration between all aspects of health
  care for humans and animals; and
         WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Texas A&M College of Veterinary
  Medicine and Biomedical Sciences has excelled in its mission of
  educating aspiring veterinarians, researching urgent medical
  issues, and serving the residents of the Lone Star State, and the
  dedicated efforts of all those associated with the college are
  indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Texas
  A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and
  extend to the college's faculty, staff, and students sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the college as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
