H.R. No. 487

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The African-American Alumni Chapter of The University of Texas at Arlington is hosting its 25th annual Banquet Weekend Celebration on March 6-8, 2015, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to recognize this notable group; and

WHEREAS, The AAAC is a service organization dedicated to providing networking and mentoring services to African American students, alumni, and employees of UT Arlington and advocating for growth and development efforts in local African American communities; and

WHEREAS, Each year, the chapter hosts an awards banquet to recognize the exceptional contributions its members have made in behalf of their fellow residents and to highlight the accomplishments of select individuals; this year's honorees include Lillie Biggins, Errol Byles, Nommo Combs, Akilah Tyson Ferguson, the Reverend Junius Dotson, Tomas Rivera, Opal Mauldin Robertson, and Charles Williams; in addition, the group will present scholarships to two promising young Texans, Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel and Caleb J. Corbett; and

WHEREAS, By honoring its members for their significant efforts to better the local community and society as a whole, the AAAC is encouraging others to follow the powerful example of social responsibility set by these outstanding civic leaders; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th annual African-American Alumni Chapter of The University of Texas at Arlington Banquet Weekend Celebration and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable event; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the chapter as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
