R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Retired Teachers Association |
|
|
are gathering in Austin for the organization's 62nd annual |
|
|
convention being held April 6 to 8, 2015; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1953, TRTA is the nation's largest |
|
|
association for retired public school and higher education |
|
|
employees; with more than 70,000 members, it advocates for |
|
|
retirees' pension benefits and other issues that relate to their |
|
|
health and well-being; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The influence of an educator extends far beyond the |
|
|
years spent in the classroom, and those women and men who have |
|
|
devoted their careers to teaching have had a lasting impact in the |
|
|
lives of countless students and have helped further the prosperity |
|
|
of the Lone Star State; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of more than six decades, the Texas |
|
|
Retired Teachers Association has demonstrated an unwavering |
|
|
commitment to its members and to the betterment of our state |
|
|
education system, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity |
|
|
to honor each person who is contributing to the work of this notable |
|
|
organization; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize April 8, 2015, as Retired Teachers Day |
|
|
at the State Capitol and extend to all those attending the 2015 |
|
|
Texas Retired Teachers Association convention sincere best wishes |
|
|
for an enjoyable and memorable event. |
