R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
WHEREAS, Members of the 2014-2015 Leadership Waxahachie |
|
class are gathering at the State Capitol on February 19, 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, The city of Waxahachie is home to a population of |
|
some 31,500 people, who benefit from a thriving business |
|
environment and numerous cultural resources; known as the Crape |
|
Myrtle Capital of Texas, Waxahachie is also thought of by many as |
|
the Gingerbread City because of its lovingly maintained Victorian |
|
homes, which give an idyllic ambience to many neighborhoods and |
|
areas; each year, thousands of visitors come to walk the city's |
|
historic streets and to experience the wealth of festivals and |
|
events that are held throughout the calendar year; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1991, members of the city's chamber of commerce |
|
initiated Leadership Waxahachie, a program that enables engaged |
|
residents to learn more about the industry, history, and culture of |
|
this vibrant community and about the roles and responsibilities |
|
that they have as city leaders; each participating class is |
|
afforded the opportunity to work with representatives of municipal, |
|
school district, and civic organizations, who assist them in |
|
reaching goals and setting targets for improvement; and |
|
WHEREAS, The 2014-2015 members of Leadership Waxahachie are |
|
Sharon Johnson, Travis Kiser, Andy Lehmann, Amy Lockhart, Kelly |
|
Martin, Derica Peters, Adrian Sanchez, Marni White, and Lynn |
|
Whitehair; and |
|
WHEREAS, The group is joined by past participants and |
|
advisors Jeanie Blake, Kerric Bradford, Scott Brooks, Kevin |
|
Chester, Michael Cloonen, Cindy Hess, Claudia James, Kay Leath, |
|
Dr. Michael Leath, Dr. David Lewis, Janet Magee, Peggy McCormick, |
|
Teresa McNiel, Jimmy Poarch, Boney Ramsey, Richard Rozier, Paul |
|
Stevens, Beth Boles-Terminella, Lance Wallace, and Jackie Wray, as |
|
well as by Mayor Kevin Strength and Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce |
|
president Debra Wakeland; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Leadership Waxahachie program encourages and |
|
empowers citizens to strive for success and to be actively involved |
|
in their community, and all those taking part in and sponsoring this |
|
worthy endeavor are most deserving of special legislative praise; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize the Leadership Waxahachie delegation |
|
on their visit to the State Capitol and commend all those associated |
|
with the program for their significant contributions to the |
|
betterment of Texas; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Leadership Waxahachie as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
