R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Residents of El Cenizo are gathering in Austin on |
|
February 18, 2015, on the occasion of El Cenizo Day at the State |
|
Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, Situated along the banks of the Rio Grande, the |
|
community was incorporated in 1989 and has a population of nearly |
|
3,500 people; it is the third largest town in Webb County and is |
|
under the leadership of Raul Lorenzo Reyes, who was first elected |
|
mayor in 2004, when he was only 21; and |
|
WHEREAS, The people of El Cenizo are known for their ability |
|
to pull together to meet common goals, and in recent years, a police |
|
department, a municipal court, and the city's first fire station |
|
have all been established; and |
|
WHEREAS, The town also upgraded much of its infrastructure, |
|
including paving streets, installing sidewalks and storm drains, |
|
and constructing a municipal park; new energy-efficient homes were |
|
built for elderly or disabled residents, and law enforcement |
|
efforts have been strengthened; and |
|
WHEREAS, El Cenizo has distinguished itself as a community of |
|
concerned and committed people whose hard work, solidarity, and |
|
dedication to positive growth and development are indeed deserving |
|
of commendation; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 18, 2015, as El Cenizo Day at |
|
the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere |
|
best wishes for an informative and enjoyable visit to Austin. |
