R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the |
|
Texas A&M Forest Service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Established by the 34th Texas Legislature in 1915, |
|
the TFS is the first state forestry agency in the nation to be part |
|
of a land grant institution; it holds as its mission the |
|
preservation of the state's trees, forests, and related natural |
|
resources, and it has led the way in sustainability and |
|
conservation, forestry education, and wildfire suppression; with |
|
protection against wildfires as one of its most important goals, |
|
the agency provides grants to train and equip firefighters and |
|
helps direct regional incident management teams in times of such |
|
disasters; and |
|
WHEREAS, The TFS is further dedicated to the beautification |
|
of the Lone Star State; its forestry research has contributed |
|
significantly to the health and productivity of our woodlands, and |
|
its field offices work with their communities to plant and care for |
|
trees; the agency also assists landowners with responsible forest |
|
management and supports the forest industry; and |
|
WHEREAS, Beginning with the early efforts of a few forest |
|
patrolmen on horseback in East Texas a century ago, the TFS has made |
|
great strides in ensuring the safety of our citizens and property |
|
and in preserving the scenic landscape for which Texas is so justly |
|
renowned; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Texas |
|
A&M Forest Service and extend to all those associated with the |
|
agency sincere best wishes for continued success with their |
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the TFS as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
