R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Oakleigh D. Smith were |
|
deeply saddened by his death on January 12, 2014, at the age of 90; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 12, 1923, |
|
Mr. Smith was the son of Dwight and Jewel Smith; he came of age |
|
during World War II and proudly served his country in the United |
|
States Army Air Corps; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith graduated from Oklahoma State University |
|
and went on to complete a master's degree in chemical engineering at |
|
The University of Texas at Austin; he became a sales manager for |
|
Purex Corporation and was employed by the company until his |
|
retirement; before returning to Oklahoma, he resided in Conroe; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith shared a fulfilling relationship with his |
|
wife, Carolyn Glomsett Smith, and he was the devoted father of three |
|
children, Donald Smith, Susan L. Kerr, and Gena Overby; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Oakleigh Smith will be deeply missed, |
|
cherished memories of time spent in his company will long endure in |
|
the hearts of his loved ones; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Oakleigh D. Smith and |
|
extend sincere condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House |
|
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Oakleigh |
|
Smith. |
