R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Richard Garcia, mayor of Edinburg, has deservedly |
|
|
been named one of the 2015 Pillars of Success by The University of |
|
|
Texas--Pan American Alumni Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The University of Texas--Pan American Alumni |
|
|
Association honors outstanding graduates as Pillars of Success, |
|
|
highlighting their motivational stories and achievements as |
|
|
positive examples for current and future students; recipients of |
|
|
the award come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, but |
|
|
they have all shown dedication, integrity, and a commitment to |
|
|
excellence in their specialized professions and in their |
|
|
communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia graduated from Edinburg High School in |
|
|
1964 and earned a bachelor of business administration degree in |
|
|
management at The University of Texas--Pan American in 1971; he |
|
|
went on to attain a juris doctorate degree from Texas Southern |
|
|
University and became a federal criminal law attorney and senior |
|
|
partner at the firm of Garcia, Quintanilla, and Palacios in |
|
|
McAllen; he is presently serving his second term as mayor of |
|
|
Edinburg; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia served the city as a municipal judge from |
|
|
1975 to 1978, and he was also a county court at law judge for 16 |
|
|
years; highlighting his achievements in public service, he has |
|
|
twice been chair of the Texas Border Coalition, and he was appointed |
|
|
to the Texas Adult Probation Commission; currently, he is president |
|
|
of the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, where he works to |
|
|
help local companies advance and promote economic expansion in the |
|
|
region; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texas is fortunate to have passionate and engaged |
|
|
leaders like Richard Garcia, and his contributions to his community |
|
|
will continue to benefit area residents far into the future; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Richard Garcia on being named one |
|
|
of the 2015 Pillars of Success by The University of Texas--Pan |
|
|
American Alumni Association and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Garcia as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
