R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Barbara Canales is being honored with a Y Women in
  Careers Award by the YWCA in Corpus Christi on March 5, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, The Corpus Christi YWCA has been recognizing
  accomplished women in the community through this awards program for
  the past 35 years; those chosen for the distinction have all
  achieved a notable degree of success in their respective fields,
  and as women who demonstrate integrity, a ready willingness to take
  on new challenges, and a commitment to excellence, they serve as
  outstanding role models for young girls, whose empowerment is a
  crucial part of the YWCA mission; and
         WHEREAS, Barbara Canales, creator and president of the Ready
  or Not Foundation, is a fitting recipient of this prestigious
  accolade; when her daughter, Jackie, was diagnosed with a brain
  tumor in 2006, Ms. Canales was inspired to start the foundation,
  which has so far raised $2.5 million for pediatric brain cancer
  research; her daughter is currently in remission, and Ms. Canales
  hopes that the foundation will serve as a source of inspiration and
  optimism for other families; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Ready or Not
  Foundation, Ms. Canales is a practicing attorney and a petroleum
  engineer; presently she serves as a commissioner with the Port of
  Corpus Christi, where she is a member of the audit, security, and
  asset management committees; and
         WHEREAS, Through the skill and determination she brings to
  all her efforts, Barbara Canales has earned the esteem of her peers
  and made contributions to her community that will resonate far into
  the future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Barbara Canales on receiving a 2015
  Y Women in Careers Award from the YWCA of Corpus Christi and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Canales as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
