R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Northeast Cultural Arts Council celebrated its |
|
|
30th anniversary in 2014, and this milestone offers a fitting |
|
|
occasion to recognize the nonprofit organization for its work in |
|
|
the Houston community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1984 by Ernest and Jewell McGowen, the |
|
|
Northeast Cultural Arts Council works to promote engagement in the |
|
|
arts and humanities by providing underprivileged children with a |
|
|
range of educational experiences and opportunities; students at the |
|
|
NE-CAC Summer Day Camp for the Arts receive professional |
|
|
instruction in such disciplines as music, dance, visual and |
|
|
performing arts, and creative writing, and the program culminates |
|
|
in a "grand finale," in which participants demonstrate the skills |
|
|
they have acquired along the way; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Students also attend art exhibitions, concerts, and |
|
|
dance performances, where they interact with professional artists |
|
|
and learn how to be respectful audience members; since its |
|
|
inception, some 2,000 young Texans have participated in the NE-CAC |
|
|
summer program, and a significant number of alumni have gone on to |
|
|
enjoy fulfilling careers in a variety of artistic fields; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, the Northeast Cultural |
|
|
Arts Council has provided an important creative outlet for |
|
|
countless young Texans, and in so doing, it has helped them develop |
|
|
confidence and self-esteem as well as a greater awareness and |
|
|
appreciation of the arts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Northeast Cultural Arts |
|
|
Council on the 30th anniversary of its founding and extend to all |
|
|
those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the council as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
