R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Continuing a proud tradition of success on the |
|
gridiron, the Canadian High School football team captured the |
|
University Interscholastic League 2A Division 1 state championship |
|
on December 18, 2014, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Wildcats won the state title with a 34-7 triumph |
|
over Mason High School, taking home the school's third state |
|
championship in football and completing a season in which they |
|
dominated their competition en route to an undefeated 15-0 record; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, After beginning its march through the postseason |
|
with an impressive victory over Windthorst, Canadian went on to |
|
defeat Stratford and Abernathy High Schools to secure a spot in the |
|
state semifinals against Mart; in that game, the Wildcats raced out |
|
to a three-touchdown lead at halftime before closing out a 49-14 win |
|
and earning a trip to the state championship game; and |
|
WHEREAS, The 2A Division 1 finale against Mason High provided |
|
an exciting matchup between two previously unbeaten squads; the |
|
Wildcats were held scoreless in the opening quarter, as Mason |
|
jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but Canadian responded with 34 |
|
unanswered points over the final three quarters to claim the |
|
championship; quarterback Tanner Schafer was selected as the |
|
Offensive Most Valuable Player of the game, and linebacker Andrew |
|
Ezzell was named the Defensive MVP for his 10-tackle performance; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the direction of head coach Chris Koetting, |
|
the Wildcats received essential contributions throughout the year |
|
from each member of the roster as they proved themselves one of the |
|
finest teams in the Lone Star State; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Canadian High School football players |
|
demonstrated admirable skill and determination in winning the state |
|
title and achieving a perfect record against top competition, and |
|
these talented student-athletes will treasure the memory of this |
|
accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Canadian High School football |
|
team on winning the 2014 UIL 2A Division 1 state championship and |
|
extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
