R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Continuing a proud tradition of success on the
  gridiron, the Canadian High School football team captured the
  University Interscholastic League 2A Division 1 state championship
  on December 18, 2014, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and
         WHEREAS, The Wildcats won the state title with a 34-7 triumph
  over Mason High School, taking home the school's third state
  championship in football and completing a season in which they
  dominated their competition en route to an undefeated 15-0 record;
  and
         WHEREAS, After beginning its march through the postseason
  with an impressive victory over Windthorst, Canadian went on to
  defeat Stratford and Abernathy High Schools to secure a spot in the
  state semifinals against Mart; in that game, the Wildcats raced out
  to a three-touchdown lead at halftime before closing out a 49-14 win
  and earning a trip to the state championship game; and
         WHEREAS, The 2A Division 1 finale against Mason High provided
  an exciting matchup between two previously unbeaten squads; the
  Wildcats were held scoreless in the opening quarter, as Mason
  jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but Canadian responded with 34
  unanswered points over the final three quarters to claim the
  championship; quarterback Tanner Schafer was selected as the
  Offensive Most Valuable Player of the game, and linebacker Andrew
  Ezzell was named the Defensive MVP for his 10-tackle performance;
  and
         WHEREAS, Under the direction of head coach Chris Koetting,
  the Wildcats received essential contributions throughout the year
  from each member of the roster as they proved themselves one of the
  finest teams in the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, The Canadian High School football players
  demonstrated admirable skill and determination in winning the state
  title and achieving a perfect record against top competition, and
  these talented student-athletes will treasure the memory of this
  accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Canadian High School football
  team on winning the 2014 UIL 2A Division 1 state championship and
  extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
